Hello friends of Charanga Danzón,

We will be performing at Suyama Space this Saturday, October 9 at 8 pm. This is an all-ages concert, bring family and friends! (some new repertoire too, including a beautiful danzón with Lance dancing!)

Suyama Space will host Charanga Danzón for a special concert within NASCENT: Installation by Gerri Sayler’s suspended waves of translucent hot glue gossamer. Suyama Space is a non-profit installation venue that provides opportunities for experimentation, inspiration, and education in contemporary art.

For those who don’t know us yet, we are Seattle’s unique Cuban music ensemble Charanga Danzón, and our Cuban repertoire includes traditional son, danzon, cha-cha-cha, classical, and jazz. Ensemble members include: Ben Verdier (bass), Jim O’Halloran (flutes), Michael Nicolella (guitars), Fred Hoadley (piano, tres), Lance Lu (shekere, dance), Francisco Medina, Jr. (percussion), Pedro Vargas (percussion), Andy Schloss (percussion), and Irene Mitri (violin, ensemble director).

This is an all ages concert, and tickets are on sale now at Brown Paper Tickets:

General advance admission is $25, ages 12 and under $10. Seating is limited. Door tickets (if there are still seats on the night of the event) will be $30 for general admission, still $10 for ages 12 and under.

What a nice way to kick off our summer of beach dancing, last night. Wow, are we lucky to have such a beautiful beach, sparkling Sound and sawtoothed mountainous horizon!
We are looking for a few more people to join the organizing crew for the Friday night Alki dancing, so we can spread the love around .
We’ll talk briefly about this at practica this Sunday, and discuss the responsibilities and roles needed to pull off the Casino on Cardboard each week.

Hi folks! Renton Technical College is having a community festival on Thursday, June 10th. We are invited to give a demo performance (along with some other great performances). A couple years ago the women’s rueda group went and put on a really good show. It would be fun to participate again. Any takers?
