Hi folks! Renton Technical College is having a community festival on Thursday, June 10th. We are invited to give a demo performance (along with some other great performances). A couple years ago the women’s rueda group went and put on a really good show. It would be fun to participate again. Any takers?

Simba is the newest dance craze that mixes samba & timba, which is performed in a group dance called Cuadrado.
Maybe the first part about simba was just a dream I had, but you can check out the Africa to Brazil show this Wednesday, 4/21 at Nectar featuring live music, dancers & DJ. Only $5 and starts at 8pm so you can enjoy hump day and still wait up for work the next day.
It’ll be a social music culture event with some Cuba and Kick Me in it. Invite on Facebook or Nectar’s site
Live music by: Sambatuque (Brazilian) Thione Diope & Yeke Yeke (West Africa) Dancers: Dora Oliveira (former Bahian Samba Queen & master dancer from Bahia, Brazil) Tudo Belezadj Tomas spinning at least 1 timba song along and much, much more.

Vanoucver Rueda Festival – Anyone still need a place to stay?

I have a place reserved and it can hold four people if you don’t mind sharing a bed with someone. Right now there’s two of us (me and Barbara). We’re sharing a bed. So there is one more bed available. It is a condo, fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, one block and a half to the workshop site. It would be $70 for the whole weekend (Friday-Sunday) for each person. Every Friday we feature live music with Arturo Rodriguez & Friends plus 1/2 hr free dance lesson 9:30 to 10. Dance till 1 am. We close at 2.
THIS SATURDAY: We have Bamba Brazil in a farewell performance by Keiko Freitas for our Brasil Carnaval evening. Prizes for best costume and more. 9:30 to 2 am. General $15. Ladies & Members $10

I know there is lots of stuff going on this weekend, but the ‘Sones are playing at monas this Saturday Feb 13, 9:30-12:30. We’ll be playing there the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. There is a small space to dance, so stop by and bust a move or two!! -kevin
