Hola salseros! Come join Rumba Northwest for a rueda session at the Folklife Festival at Seattle Center, 5-7pm on Monday May 28th. Great warm-up for those interested in the Alma y Azucar at 6:10pm and/or Cambalache at 7:10pm, both at Center House. Let’s meet at the fountain and scope out a good spot. I’m posting this for our friend Adam Vance..see you there !!!! Dj Baracoa aka David y Eglis

Adam says ” I’ve just renovated my house, there is no furniture in the living room yet and the wood floors are wide open. Time to dance! So I am having a Cuban-style dance/house warming party this Saturday April 28th.

Please join us and help me to break in the new dance floor (albeit gently with shoes-off and socks only because the floors were just redone…) – we can christen the new decor and raise a glass together. Feel free to bring music if you like, an extra bottle or appetizers to make sure we are well equipped for a fun evening of dancing. Standing room only, no furniture btw…

Casino Cruise to Friday Harbor Sunday 8/12!

Hola casineros! I know this is WAY ahead of time, but I wanted to get it on the calendar. Rumba Northwest is planning the first annual “Casino Cruise” on board a Washington State ferry! The ferry system is happy to host us, they enjoy having dance groups onboard. Sunday August 12, ferry leaves Anacortes at 11:55am, sails to Friday Harbor, and returns about 5 hours later. We just play music and dance on the deck, hopefully in the sunshine! As we get closer to the event we’ll want to get a head count to provide to the ferry system so they know what to expect. Stay tuned for more details! And thanks to Dex Horton for getting this going!

Hola Cuban music lovers, we are going to make it happen this Saturday. Legendary Sierra Maestra is playing at the Seattle Town Hall and after the concert we are all heading down to “Cafe con Leche” Cuban Restaurant at Club Sur to continue with beautiful Son, Cha-cha-cha and Timba. We might even convince some of the band members to come party with us. Game? Bring your friends and make the Cuban familia bigger!!! Cost: $5

Kulshan Chorus is a “Bellingham’s cross-cultural, multi-generational singing group that celebrates America’s diverse musical heritage”.

They have paired up with our very own Supersones, to sing, play music, and celebrate the “Sound of Cuba”.

Rumba NW dancers will also perform during the event.

Saturday, April 28th, 7:30 pm, at Western Washington University’s PAC Concert Hall, join us for “The Sound of Cuba“, surely will be a night of warmth, uplifting, rich, and beautiful music!

Join Elspeth Savani (from Orchestra Zarabanda) and her Jazz Quintet, as they play a nightof World Jazz at the beautiful and historic Columbia City Theater. Afterwards, Supersones will play a set of their infectious and danceable music starting around 9:45.

Doors: 8pm

Savani will open the show at 8:30 and the Supersones will come on for dancing 9:45 until 11:30.

I heard from Maritza that she started a monthly casino on cardboard event in San Diego, is teaching, and is in a rueda performance group with some of the rueda instructors in San Diego. She also started a rueda community blog for San Diego at www.sandiegorueda.com. She sounds really happy!
