Kulshan Chorus is a “Bellingham’s cross-cultural, multi-generational singing group that celebrates America’s diverse musical heritage”.

They have paired up with our very own Supersones, to sing, play music, and celebrate the “Sound of Cuba”. 

Rumba NW dancers will also perform during the event.

Saturday, April 28th, 7:30 pm, at Western Washington University’s PAC Concert Hall, join us for “The Sound of Cuba“, surely will be a night of warmth, uplifting, rich, and beautiful music!

There are excellent albums there from klimax, van van, charanga habanera, manolin as well as other artists that are less well known (e.g. some of the european bands alexander abreu has been involved in). It takes some work to page through the 12 pages , but well worth it. most of the albums are older,  tend to be  mid 2000′s.

I just ordered 7 CDs , and I have lots of the stuff on sale. Shipping was only $4 for the lot.  I’ve ordered from them in the past – the only downside is sometimes they don’t really have some of the items. They credit you back in that case, but still a disappointment.

The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley welcomes Latin Jazz Timbalero Pete Escovedo, featuring Juan and Peter Michael Escovedo for four nights! Band members are Pete Escovedo (leader, timbales), Juan Escovedo (Congas), Peter Michael Escovedo (drums), Joe Rotondi (piano), Michael Alvarado (guitar), Marc Van Wageningen (bass), Mario Gonzales (trumpet), Doug Beavers (trombone), Kerry Loeschen (trombone) and George Shelby (saxophone, flute). Set times Thursday and Sunday at 7:30pm. Set times Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Doors open at 6:00pm on Thursday and 5:30pm Friday – Sunday.

Legendary Percussionist Pete Escovedo broke down the barriers between Smooth Jazz, Salsa, Latin Jazz and contemporary music. Born in Pittsburg, CA, July 13, 1935, he began his musical journey while attending high school in Oakland, CA. At the age of sixteen, he began playing the saxophone and then discovered percussion which became his love of rhythm and his dream of playing Latin Jazz music.

After performing with various bands, in 1960 Pete and his brothers, Coke and Phil Escovedo formed the “Escovedo Brothers Latin Jazz Band.” In 1970 Pete and Coke formed the band “Azteca” that toured the United States with Stevie Wonder and The Temptations. They recorded two albums on Columbia records which are now considered collectors items, “Azteca” and “Pyramid of the Moon.” In 1972 Pete toured and performed with the Carlos Santana band and recorded three major albums, “Moonflower”, “Oneness” and “Inner Secrets.” Pete’s versatility as a Percussionist has been featured in performances and recordings by a wide range of artists such as Carlos Santana, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, Anita Baker, Al Jarreau, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez, Chick Corea, and the list goes on.

Only $5 each night and dinner packages are available.  Come celebrate one of the most successful, longest running salsa venues in Seattle which has hosted many bands, performers, and DJ’s over the last 15 years.
