Thank you EVERYONE for showing up last night to dance and listen to the Supersones, and for supporting them with your enthusiasm and generosity!
It’s so totally amazing to me to listen and dance to the Supersones outdoors, in such a beautiful setting!
Two items were LEFT ON THE BEACH, both of which I have:
1. small-medium frame size prescription sunglasses, a green-ish, tortoise shell design is on the frames.
2. an old-style cylindrical 1-Liter opaque small-mouthed Nalgene water bottle.
Contact me at gianthoupis@yahoo.com if either of these are yours.

Alki Casino on Cardboard with the Supersones is ON for tonight, 7 pm!
I’ll get to Alki a bit before 6 pm to set up the floors. If you are able and interested in coming down early, all set-up effort is helpful and appreciated!
(Please remember to bring some cash to add to our ‘pass the hat’ compensation effort for the band)
Looking forward to seeing you all down there.
ALSO:
News is that Mars will be the brightest in the night sky, tonight at 12:30 am, as the planet comes within 34.65M miles of Earth. It will look like the Earth has 2 moons.
So maybe pack up some warm clothes, if you want to stick around the beach, to sky-gaze, and catch this cool astronomical event!

Weather is not as sunny and warm as last week, but it will be dry according to Weather.com http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/98102?dayNum=1
So bring yourselves on down for music and dancing.
And if I can have two people arrive by 6 pm to watch the floor as we unload, take floor to strip, and set up, that’d be fantastic!!
See you all there!

Seattle Casineros, if you’re looking outside and asking yourself whether dancing on Alki is happening tonight, the answer is a resounding YES!!
Because even though the weather looks iffy right now, it is suposed to go from mostly cloudy to mostly sunny later, according to: http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/98102?begHour=0&begDay=218
So, see you all at Alki in a few hours!

¡Hola Casineros!
Tomorrow’s weather is looking good for dancing on Alki (last good one before Saturday showers), so I am posting a request for hands to help with setup tomorrow. It has been great having different people showing up at 6 to help these past Fridays, so hope to have it continue.
We will need at least two people to get there at 6 to help with setup tomorrow (and possibly hold a spot across from Duke’s). Jocelyn and I have the floor pieces in our trunk, and I also have the broom, squeegee, and Jan’s music box (thanks, Jan), which I’ll charge today so we have full power for tomorrow night. Will someone be bringing Eddie’s music box to hook them up for dual sound?
Jocelyn and I will need two people to help unload (watch while we park the car) the floor, and the afterwards we can all take the floor over to the sandy strip, as well as set up the floor.
Please email me or respond to this comment if you can get there by 6 at the latest.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for another fun night of dancing on the beach!

Hello everyone!!
I need some volunteers to arrive early at Alki to hold a spot across (or near) our usual spot. Jain and Christina, who did it before, are both on vacation for the next two weeks so we need someone to help in the meantime.
I have 1/2 of the floor in my car, and Ismael will bring the other half. I can prob arrive at the beach by 6, but not likely earlier. Anyone can get there by 5 or 5:30 so that they can keep an eye on the floor after I unload and go find a parking spot?
It is supposed to be a nice day tomorrow, the first truly nice day since we started Rueda on the beach at the beginning of June, so methinks lots of people will be at Alki, all the more reason to stake out a spot early.
Please respond to this post or email me so I know who to look out for.
Hope to see you all there!

Hi fellow casineros,
We are cancelling tonight’s segment of Casino on Cardboard at Alki due to weather – forecast is for chance of rain, and it is not getting warmer.
See you next week!

This year we are making some changes to our annual Alki beach parties. We changed the night from Thursday to Friday, and we are purchasing a more solid dance floor. Yes, after years of dancing on refrigerator cartons and duct tape we are about to upgrade our beach-dancing experience! The reasons are mainly:
1. Transporting and storing the cardboard dance floor requires a van or large SUV, and we have a limited number of people with appropriate vehicles.
2. Setting up the cardboard dance floor each week is labor-intensive, and it is usually the same small number of people doing this work.
3. Duct tape costs about $17 each week, and it cannot be re-used.
Nadja has researched new flooring and purchased sample pieces for review by the group. A new 15′ x 15′ portable dance floor will cost about $1103. We can use some money from our rueda fund (for winter rental at Sonny Newman’s) to cover the purchase, but we also need donations from YOU!
We expect this floor to last several years, so take that into consideration when donating. How much is our Alki beach dance worth to you? $10? $20? $50? more? We would like to raise as much as possible right now, to be able to purchase and use the floor right away.
Please give your donations to Nadja, Jain, Kyra, or Christina, and all money will be forwarded to the dance floor fund. If donating by check, make it out to Nadja Honeywell. Please give what you can to support this project.
See you at the beach!

CASINO ON CARDBOARD 2010:
Alki Beach Party starts this Friday, June 11th !
For Newbies and Veterans alike, I thought I would post a reminder of the start of our most cherished event of the year and what it’s about:
WHERE: Alki Beach on the sandy strip off of Alki Avenue SW in West Seattle. Our exact location on the strip of sandy beach may change each week depending on availability. (We are usually between 57th and 59th Avenues SW, somewhere between Duke’s Chowder House and Homefront Smoothies. Park and simply listen for Cuban music and look for Carboard and Tiki Torches to find us.)
WHEN: now FRIDAYS, 7pm, beginning June 11th
WHAT: cardboard-duct-tape dance floor, music, sunsets, dancing, friends, long nights, and pure fun!
(PS – tips: If you plan on staying the duration…bringing your own lawn chair/blanket to sit on is a good idea!!, in addition any dance rations & bevies)
IF you have any questions – please contact the gang here on the blog. It will be a great team effort again this year, so feel free to write us a note here.
**NOTE – In case of bad weather (rain), the event will be cancelled and posted on the seattlerueda.com homepage as soon as a determination is made.

Hey Dancing Peeps!
Let’s get ready for Casino on Cardboard at Alki!
Thursday, June 10 is the “proposed” starting date of this summer’s beach dancing.
There are some conflicts though, with potential solutions below, which I ask your thoughts on to help resolve (without a billion reply-all emails flying!):
1. John is teaching a drumming class Thursday evenings and thus is potentially unable to join and be the cardboard’s transport (in his van).
I believe we have other members with SUV’s who might be able to take up and also share this responsibility.
2. Many women in the group have committed to and been attending a body movement class with Maiensy all winter, on Thursdays.
A suggested solution is to change the Alki Casino dancing night to another evening?
Another is for Maiensy’s class can change nights for the summer?
Please respond with your input here, on the blog.
We will also bring the “Casino Start Date” idea up at this upcoming Sunday Practica, May 30, for folks to weigh in.
If you are unable to be at Practica and/or want to send thoughts in private, feel free to email me, Christina, at gianthoupis@yahoo.com. I will be more than happy to ‘represent’ your input for you.
