Seattle Rueda is a loosely organized community of Cuban musicĀ (such as Timba and Son) and dance (cuban salsa, casino) enthusiasts founded by people who wanted Cuban music and dance to become part of life in Seattle. We gather together to enjoy dancing with each other, practice rueda as a group, and collectively advance our repertoire of rueda calls. We support live Cuban music and musicians in the Northwest. We welcome everyone.
Hello all–
I just wanted to note the draft mission statement above is an active work in progress. We welcome comments and suggestions from anyone who has attended at least one Sunday practice or Thursday beach party with Seattle Rueda. (If you haven’t attended at least one, please come! and then comment after.)
Points people have touched on in the past:
-community
-practice
-Cuban music as well as dance
-open welcome to all
Current Seattle Rueda activities include:
-Sunday practices
-Summer Thursday beach parties
-Dancing to local Cuban bands
-Learning from local Cuban dance instructors
-Inviting out-of-town instructors to Seattle
-Social get-togethers, potlucks, house parties
If there’s something you’re dying to see happen in the Seattle rueda community–post your inspiration on the main blog.
If you’d like to comment on the current content or wording or suggest additional thoughts and ideas for the mission statement, please add comments on the blog, or email me privately at kfreestar@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Kyra
