June 2 DJs, June 9 dance floor driver: HELP WANTED

2017 Alki beach dancing

Dancing on the beach is a highlight of the summer!

HELP WANTED:
DJ using any audio device with a 1/8″ headphone jack!

We need a volunteer to transport the dance floor to/from Alki Beach June 2-9th. The job consists of picking up the dance floor on Friday June 2nd at Alki Beach at around 10 PM, storing it for the week, then dropping it back off at Alki beach on Friday June 9th at around 6 PM. You don’t have to be at the beach the entire night, just in time to pick up and drop off the floor.

Transporters need enough trunk space to fit the stacked flooring tiles measuring about 3′ W x 3′ D x 18″ H. Plenty of volunteers will be available to help unload, assemble, disassemble, and load the floor each week. Leave a comment with dates you can volunteer to; DJ, help set up, pack up, or transport the dance floor.

Where:
You’ll find the dance floor right on the sandy beach across the street from Duke’s Chowder House and Blue Moon Burgers near 58th Ave SW.

When:
Set up by volunteers from 5:30-7 PM. Music and dancing from 7-10 PM.

Dances take place every Friday night all summer as long as it’s dry, at least through Labor Day weekend in September.

Bring:
Sunglasses, sunscreen, shoes you can get dirty, and maybe a jacket for sundown are great ideas. Optionally bring food or drinks to share. Alcohol is not allowed at the public beach, but friends and passersby are always welcome.

Credit:
Special thanks Stephanie Mano for storing the flooring at her house since last summer. Thanks to Sergio, Agustin, and Angie for offering to help set up. Thanks to Ed for lending the use of his Block Rocker speaker.

“Dance allows us to feel welcomed and loved, from a place of warmth as personal and familiar as our name, beyond islands and continents, beyond politics, beyond the most provocative of words. Dance challenges our elemental understandings and invites us to enter ungraspable realities. Dance is as nurturing as it is daring: a reminder of the endless possibilities inherent to our greater sense of belonging.”
—Maiensy Sanchez
