If you want rueda lessons…

Posted by on 17 May 2015 | Tagged as: Instruction

Rueda de casino lessons at SalsaNSeattle are cancelled for the summer. In late summer SnS will likely announce a fall session. You will have to sign up for it in advance to ensure your space.

In the meantime, there are two options:

1) Check out Rainier Valdes’s classes (see Instructor page)

2) If you are interested in a short, focused series–for beginners, or for advanced beginner/intermediate–please let Betsy Geller know (see Instructor page for contact info or send a Facebook message). If there are enough people of similar level I will try to set up a 5 or 6 week series, most likely in Greenwood.

“Finding the Clave”: Originally designed as a 4-week workshop, Roberto Borrell explains the role of the Clave rhythm in different genres Cuban music. Being able to find the Clave is the key to Cuban music.

“Orisha Dance”: Roberto Borrell teaches Folkloric Dance from the Afro-Cuban traditions with an emphasis on singing, rhythm and footwork.

“Listening and Popular Dance”: Roberto Borell divides the classes for Cuban Popular Music, “listening,” and Popular Dance into two parts.
Understanding the music is essential in being able to dance. The focus of these classes is the development of Danzón, Son and Cha Cha Cha, that later morphed into Timba. The classes can be taken separately, but coming to both parts is strongly encouraged for dancers. “Listening” is also fantastic for musicians who are interested in learning more about the forms and cues that are essential for creating strong and authentic arrangements that will make sense to dancers.

“Conga Workshop”: Crazy for Conga! Come join Roberto Borrell as he explores the rhythms, the music and history of Cuban Carnaval. This will be an interactive class including videos, music and dance.
