Maiensy says: From the depth of my heart to yours, here is another opportunity for all to practice showing up and being present. We will work with body weight transfer, internal breathing, and body isolation exercises. In the process, we will develop our self-connection as dancers and musical sensibilities.

Noon – 2:00,  bring comfortable clothing and either a cozy blanket, yoga mat, or long towel for the initial portion of the workshop. Socks are recommended but not required. See the Facebook invitation to register and for more information:

Posted by on 13 May 2013 | Tagged as: Kick Me !! (the poster)

Rumba Northwest is working with Plaza Cuba to organize a LEGAL dance/culture trip to Cuba March 1-10, 2014. The itinerary will include seven nights in Havana and two nights in Trinidad (an amazing colonial town about five-hour drive from Havana). The program will include lodging, transportation, breakfasts, dance classes, and lots of cultural exchanges with local musicians, dancers, and artists. Although we are still ironing out the final details, the cost will be around $2,200/person (not including flights). I have lots more to tell you about this amazing trip if you are interested! Just send an email to and I will send more details. –Heather

Salsa at Folk Life Festival May 26 and 27

Posted by on 13 May 2013 | Tagged as: Kick Me !! (the poster)

Hey Seattle!

Rumba Northwest will be teaching a beginning Cuban salsa/Rueda class at the Folk Life Festival at Seattle Center (Rainier Room) 1-1:50pm on Monday May 27th. Although it will be a beginning class, this is a good opportunity to welcome new people into the Seattle casino scene, and recruit students.

Later that evening our team will be performing at the annual salsa party in the Armory (Center House). There are live bands, a salsa DJ, and performances scheduled from 6-10pm. We may try to organize an outdoor rueda session before the 6pm salsa party, like we’ve done in the past, stay tuned.

On Sunday night (26th) there is some Latin music at the mural amphitheater:
6:45-7:10pm Brazilian drums
7:25-8pm Cambalache
8:15-8:50 Cumbieros
9:10-9:45pm SuperSones

There are probably more Latin things happening throughout the weekend…full schedule is at

Hope to see you there!

5-17-2013 Weather Forecast

Yes, it’s Summer already!

Casino on Cardboard circa 2009

Remember when we used to dance on refrigerator boxes?

Ahhh… remember those warm, sunny summer days that lasted late into the night?…
Of course you do, because those days are already here again!

Revolución Entertainment (you know, Felix and me) and our SeattleRueda friends are starting the summer outdoor rueda de casino dance season off early with the first dance of 2013 next Friday May 17th! We don’t have to wait for the solstice or for Memorial Day to declare it’s summer. It’s summer when we start dancing on Alki Beach by gently splashing waves with the lazy sun setting over the mountains and the yellow moon rising over the city. Where else would you be?

It will be awesome if you can help set up at around 6:00, have musica MP3s you want to play, or plan to bring snacks, drinks, a chair, sun screen, a sweater, or friends!

What: Casino on Cardboard Kick-off
When: Friday, May 17, 2013 7:00-10ish
Where: Alki Beach near Alki Ave SW & 57th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116
Why: It’s summertime, baby!

P.S. Sunglasses welcome, but no umbrellas allowed!
