One more post from me today: We had a really good discussion about the practica format and related issues at the open meeting today. A sincere thanks everyone who participated! There were 11 of us. We narrowed down and tweaked the list of ideas and will be looking for folks to help implement them. I plan to bring a summary sheet and and a sign up for specific volunteer tasks next week at practica. Also check back in a week for a new post about it here.

The Rose City Salsa Festival is April 12-15 at the Hilton in Vancouver, WA. This is Portland’s festival but it’s a little shorter drive for us this year, and they are having casino and rueda, with Duane, Mike and Simona, and Katy Hernandez! http://www.rosecitysalsafestival.com/workshops-2
The full pass is $110 for Fri and Sat night parties, plus all day Sat and Sun workshops. If you pay for workshops individually they’re $20 each. Or a Saturday workshop pass is $60, and the Saturday party is $35.
I expect there will be several people driving down Saturday and returning Sunday. It would be great to have a small crowd from Seattle. The hotel is $114 + tax per room, and that’s the total cost for up to 4 people.
We’ll figure out carpools as the time gets closer, but in the meantime you can let me know if you’re interested in carpooling.

I heard from Maritza that she started a monthly casino on cardboard event in San Diego, is teaching, and is in a rueda performance group with some of the rueda instructors in San Diego. She also started a rueda community blog for San Diego at www.sandiegorueda.com. She sounds really happy!

Here are some of the best Cuban timba, reggaeton and rumba alblums of 2011 (in my opinion) from Los Van Van, Halia Mompie, Combinacion de la Habana, Los 4, Agüiri Yo and the beautiful soundtrack to Chico y Rita. Click on the ablum covers to hear music samples.
And I’ll be spinning many of these tonight at Club Sur.
