Seattlites: let’s do up Bellingham and the 11-piece Cuban band Maraca, on Friday 9/16!

As Ofer rightly put it, let’s caravan up to beautiful Bellingham to support our dancing family, Antonio, Heather y los ninos, and our friends of Rumba NW, in their consistent effort to bring amazing Cuban music and dance opportunities to us all!
Heather and Antonio are hosting a pre-show potluck for the band, 6:30-8pm. Let’s enjoy this lovely Indian summer with an evening of food and camaraderie! (H and A have to be at the venue by 8:15pm but people are welcome to hang
here at their house till showtime.)
Doors for the show open at 9pm.
If you plan on staying, Heather mentioned that on Saturday there is a great Farmer’s Market in B’ham, 10am-3pm. Plus hiking opportunities, or just general lounging in the sweet town of Bellingham or the beautiful Boulevard Park.

Just a quick reminder that this weekend Carlos Cinta will be here to teach Bachata workshops at the Century Ballroom.
If you’ve ever been curious about bachata OR want to add more Dominican (Carribean) flavor to your bachata dancing, then these are the workshops for you! Carlos focuses on musicality and footwork and shows you how you can bring your understanding of music into your dancing.

Hi everyone!
What a great last four days of dancing, eh?
Today’s rainy Monday weather prompted me to think that we are more than halfway through our Friday night dances on Alki for the summer. With fall approaching, I would like to bring up the need to find a suitable home for our dance floor, where it can rest flat to keep its shape for more dances next summer.
Lets talk this coming Friday, as I think the weather is supposed to take a turn for the better. I will update the blog in the afternoon if it is looking ‘iffy’.

Hi! I met you all last Sunday when I was just randomly wandering up the Wallingford steps from the Peace Festival at Gasworks Park. Thank you so much for an awesome time!! I will try and make it out more to dance and practice with you all!! Yeah!!

Seattle Cigar Expo, Saturday 8/20

The first Seattle Cigar Expo is this Saturday, 8/20 at the Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion from 12pm to 8pm. There will be several Latin bands and DJ Thomas between all the sets.

Rooftop Salsa Potluck Party Sunday 8/21

Summer is the season for rooftop parties. It will still be Summer this Sunday, August 21st. It’s a scientific fact! This possibly last rooftop party for 2011 begins at 7, right after the Rueda de Casino Practica. Let’s close the summer in style and say farewell to one of my best friends, Adriel.
Bring: something tasty to eat or drink. Barbecue grills are available. Also bring a sweater or jacket for later. It’ll get cool after sundown.
Music: Latin music of the Salsa, Mambo, Cuban, and Timba variety. Be our guest DJ, by bringing some favorite CDs or your iPod.
To get in, use the intercom and dial “513.” Say “Let’s party!” and I’ll buzz you in. Go straight ahead and take the elevator at the end of the hall to “R” for roof.
