Ricardo Lemvo has established himself as a pioneer with his innovative music, combining Latin and African elements from salsa to soukous with an occasional merengue or Afro-Portuguese excursion. This Congo-born artist is the embodiment of the Afro-Latin Diaspora which connects back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave rhythm. Lemvo is truly multi-cultural and equally at home singing in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Lingala, and Kikongo.

Since forming his Los Angeles-based band Makina Loca in 1990, Lemvo has refined his craft and vision, raising his joyous voice with strength, singing songs that celebrate life, and most importantly, inspiring his audiences to let loose and dance away their worries.

Posted by on 08 Jul 2011 | Tagged as: Kick Me !! (the poster)

Hola salseros! There are two good reasons to come visit us in Bellingham next weekend (July 16-17): we’ll be celebrating one year of Rumba Northwest at our Café Cubano event on Saturday night AND Zarabanda will be playing a free outdoor concert on Sunday afternoon (on the Village Green in Fairhaven, 2-5pm). We’ll do some Rueda-in-the-Park right afterward.
Café Cubano is 9:30pm-12:30am, we’ll kick it off with a Cuban Salsa lesson, followed by the best mix of salsa, cha cha, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, mambo and son. At the Blue Horse Gallery Cafe (301 W Holly), $5 per person, all ages.
Let us know if you need a place to crash on Saturday, we’ll find a spot for you.

Antonio will also be teaching two classes tomorrow (Saturday July 9) in Bellingham at the Firehouse Performing Arts Center: Afro-Cuban (with live drummers) 3-4pm, Cuban son 4:15-5:15, call us for more info!

Freakin’ Fun 4th = Fireworks + Food + Friends

Posted by on 03 Jul 2011 | Tagged as: Events

When: Monday, July 4th 6-11pm

Street parking is free on holidays!

Where: Rooftop of the Moda Apartment building in Belltown

2312 3rd Ave. Seattle, WA 98121

To get in, use the call box to look me up listed as  “I. West/513″ in the intercom using the “A-Z” buttons. I’ll answer buzz you in.

Take the elevator at the end of the hall. Press “R” for rooftop.

Join us to watch the Lake Union fireworks show on the 4th of July from my Belltown apartment rooftop deck! You’ll be close enough to “Oooo” and “Ahhhh” at all the glory of the big fireworks show–and be far away enough to avoid a parking and traffic nightmare.

Potluck, BBQ, music, and dancing. Just the party basics. You know the drill…

Bring: something tasty to eat or drink. Barbecue grills are available.

Music: Latin music of the Salsa, Mambo, Cuban, and Timba variety. Be our guest DJ, by bringing some favorite CDs or your iPod.

Notes: Wear comfortable, casual shoes and leave the stiletto high heels at home. The floor surface is made up of deck boards, which is best suited to simpler street-style moves. Fancy spins won’t go over too well. Bring a sweater or jacket for later. It’ll get cool after sundown.

Enjoy!
