Hello Everyone,
I received a call from a lady who wants to have a rueda/casino performance and someone to teach at a private event (birthday party). It will be on Saturday, February 18, 2011 from 7:30pm and on. There is a possible honorarium for the instructor and performer(s). If any of you are interested, please call Iliana at (206)816-2900
I would do it, but it is the weekend of the San Francisco Rueda Festival. Hopefully someone can do this, if they are not going to the festival.

2/16/2011 UPDATE: it has been cancelled; read more here:
Have you heard the buzz…there might be a Cuban ‘Woodstock’ this year. There has been talk, posts out there, and changed dates…but this is the latest I have seen. What have you heard? Is it true? Do they have it together to pull something huge like this off, in the US? Let’s bookmark the site and see what transpires…(As of now, it is scheduled for Sat, April 9 in Florida.) I’ll believe it when I see it.

The blog has been hit with a lot of spam registrations and attempts to post spam articles. Till now we have handled this in a manual fashion. I still want to allow anyone to join the group and discussion if they are legit. I’ve taken some steps to ensure that we still have an open community while eliminating the “bad” stuff:
1) New registration – new users will be ‘contributors’ – they will be able to create a post, but it will need to be approved by one of our editors before it is visible. At that point if they are real people – we will convert them to an ‘author’ that can post at will.
2) I deleted 540 registered users that have never posted. In the off chance that you are a community member that has never posted, you will need to register again if you ever decide to post. The only reason to register is in order to post, otherwise anyone can read or comment.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

The Northwest premiere of Oscar’s Cuba (Spanish and English with English subtitles). Screening and panel discussion of the acclaimed 2010 documentary film depicting political repression in Cuba and the survival, despite great adversity, of a human rights community on the island. The film’s focus is Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, a doctor sentenced to a 25-year prison term for publicly denouncing human rights abuses by the Cuban government. Director Jordan Allott, who traveled to Cuba to record interviews with local dissidents and human rights activists, will be present to introduce the film and take questions. Admission is free.

Hosted by the UW Center for Human Rights. Sponsored by the Give2Cuba Project of the Seattle International Foundation, in cooperation with the Seattle Latino Film Festival, Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program (UW) and the Simpson Center for the Humanities (UW).

I’ve posted the pictures from yesterday’s potluck at Eddie’s, here on the SeattleRueda blog, so we keep our gallery updated with events that we have in Seattle.
I did a little bit of editing, so I did not catch anyone looking akward in ‘eating’ shots…but do let me know if you want any picture removed!
already planning the next potluck
