Hey Seattle salseros! It’s Heather and Antonio — the couple with Baby Diego you may have seen at Alki and Selena’s and Betsy’s rueda class. We just wanted to say thanks for welcoming us to Seattle’s Cuban dance scene, and let you know what’s going on in Bellingham if you ever get up north. We’re doing rueda-in-the-park on Sundays at 5pm, we have rueda classes on Mondays, Dominican Bachata classes on Tuesdays, and Cuban Salsa classes on Thursdays. We’ll be doing an Afro-Cuban workshop on Saturday August 28th, and will start a Cuban Son class in September. We’re also organizing a group trip to Cuba in January (our sixth trip but second group trip). Just send an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call (360-595-7369) if you’d like more details, we also have a Facebook group (Rumba Northwest):
We’ve really been enjoying our visits to Selena’s, Alki, etc. — thanks to everyone for the lovely dances, and for making us feel welcome!

It’s is now confirmed. Julian Mejia from SalsAtlanta is coming to Seattle. Julian is well known in Cuban Salsa Rueda Festivals. His teaching is impeccable. If you even danced with any of his students, either leads or follows, they are smooth like “buttah.”
If you want to see some of his videos, check out the video section of his SalsAtlanta website.
Please save the dates:
Saturday, Sept 11 through Sunday Sept 12, 2010.
There will be pre-registration beginning second week of August. He will be teaching 7 workshops all together …more details coming soon.
See you in August (I’m still in San Diego).
I just saw on FB that David is DJ’ing at Meza tonight (I didn’t quite see the posting on the blog for some reason, even though I was on the site 3 times today). Fabulous!
Soooo, if the rest of you are also visually hindered like me, let’s head to Meza for some more dancing after Alki tonight.

The outdoor dance season continues with a Summer Rooftop Salsa Potluck Party on Sunday August 1st from 7-11 pm in Belltown! I invite the Casino Rueda community to join us for some dancing downtown, along with all the favorites; food, drinks, music and the great outdoors.
When: Sunday August 1st from 7-11 pm
Where: Rooftop of the Moda Apartment building in Belltown
2312 3rd Ave. Seattle, WA 98121
Bring: something tasty to eat or drink. Barbecue grills are available.
Music: Latin music of the Salsa, Mambo, Cuban, and Timba variety. Be our guest DJ, by bringing a favorite CD or your iPod.
Notes: Wear comfortable casual shoes and leave the stiletto high heels at home. The floor surface is made up of deck boards, which is best suited to simpler street-style moves. Fancy spins won’t go over too well.
Also: Bring a sweater or jacket for later.
Entry details to follow closer to the date of the party…
I’m hosting the Al Lado Latino radio show on KBCS 91.3 FM this Saturday, 7/17 from 6-8pm Pacific (9-11pm Eastern). I’ll be spinning some old school and new cuts. If you’re outside of Seattle you can listen live or to the audio archieve of the show via the station’s website at http://kbcs.fm/
Then I’m off to DJ Afro-Caribbean Salsa night at Selena’s in Wallingford starting at 10pm. Below are some new CD’s from Cuba and a couple form Venezuela & Colombia that I’ll be playing on the radio and at Selena’s tomorrow. Oscar Valdes is my favorite so far. He’s a former signer & percussionist of Irakere, and Chucho Valdes gives him credit for developing some of the most popular rhythms used in Timba today.
