Rueda in NY with VicDancing with Lazaro

Victoria-Hadar from NYC is coming to Seattle and Tacoma to teach casino and rueda de casino. Her workshops will be split  between Tacoma and Seattle. If you would like to know more about Vic, here is her bio. I highly recommend her. I have taken her classes and she’s even taught my brother who did not know any salsa and he is using what he has learned from Vic in the musical called “In The Heights” which is coming to Seattle in October. More on that later. Vic is awesome and she is so much fun to learn from. She teaches in NYC and is respected in the casino community and in national and international rueda congresses.

Wednesday, April 28th, A at the  Studio 6 Ballroom in Tacoma                     5:30-6:30pmBody Motion for Cuban Salsa (a.k.a. Casino) – Emphasizing isolation movements in the torso, shoulders, arms, hips and legs. Great workshop for beginners.

6:30-8:30pmDinner Break – Dining in Tacoma

Come learn salsa suelta moves  from NYC! You will want to get on a plane to NY and want to dance THIS! Super fun!

8:00-9:00pm Partnering to Rueda – Focusing on group moves that are super fun like “jardin” and “amistad” etc., plus, fun silly vocal calls that are done in NYC.

Saturday, May 1st at My World Dance & Fitness Studio in Seattle             12:30-1:30pmTaking your Leading/Following to the Next Level – Partnering in casino, footwork, body and hand connection techniques, turn patterns, alardes, ganchos and moving around the floor. Learn how to connect comfortably with your partner on the dance floor.

1:30-2:30pmCasino Partnering Combinations – Learn how to combine turns and basic casino moves while learning NY casino patterns. You will come away with a set sequence to help you remember turns and transitions while dancing casino in social dance setting.

2:30-3:30pmRuedalicious! – Spice up  your basic rueda moves (i.e. dames, enchuflas, coca colas, exhibilas, rondes, di le que no’s, adios) and jazz them up with a flavor a lo Cubano en Nueva York! Also learn the rueda moves NYC casineros are calling as well.

3:30-4:30pm “Oye! Una Bulla!” Caller Workshop – Learn how to call a rueda using voice projection to create and draw energy as well as knowing how to time calls. Participants will work in small groups to make sure everybody has a chance to practice calling.

A BIG THANK YOU to Ryan & Sidney from San Francisco

Posted by on 17 Apr 2010 | Tagged as: Music, Notes From The Lab

I just want to give a shout out to Ryan and Sidney for impacting my learning of casino and rueda in line con el ritmo de la musica. I can’t tell you how much your teaching has meant for me and I find that now, more than ever, I am intentionally looking to dance with the music and dissecting a song for ponches and rhythm changes. Betsy and I were on fire last night listening to Issac Delgado’s song ‘Deja Que Robert Te Toque” and I feel I am a much better lead, follow and teacher from it.  Can’t wait to see you both come back to visit us again. Have a safe trip back home.

Thank You Vancouver Fam!!!

I wanted to acknowledge all the time you took out of your lives to put on the first “Chicks-In-Charge Rueda event” !! I know the participants are all so grateful, because it enriches the community by creating more exposure, AND not to mention enriches our own lives and heals our daily issues!

It’s great to dance and smile with people we don’t know, but understand through our connectedness by singing our favorite coro (chorus) or tasting our fav melody!!

Thank You and see you again soon,

Sam
