Learn how dancers caused the development of cha-cha-cha and mambo

Mini-workshop – two nights
Cuban popular music for the dancer: PartII Danzon-ChaChaCha-Mambo Ready for part II? These three great musical and dance styles are all related. Learn about the instrumentation of each, characteristics of each style and how these forms still influence salsa and jazz today. In this mini-workshop, pianist Ann-ita Reynolds will lead you through an exploration of these forms. The classes are not dance classes, although basic movements will be described and the personality of the dance discussed. This class serves as a good introduction if you are going on to study the dances. We’ll listen to historical recordings as well as into contemporary recordings so you become familiar with the styles and instruments that are important for the dancer to hear. I will also demonstrate some of the key musical patterns. All welcome, even if you didn’t do PartI-Son. (Limit of 15 people)
