Cortona Entrance

Hi All,

I want to let you all know about a new coffee shop that my daughter Sarah and her husband Will have just opened at 25th E and E Union in the Central District.

The name is Cortona and it’s more than a coffee shop. Will has installed a projector in the upstairs sitting area and has made the philosophy of the shop to not only provide good coffee…but in his words..The Central District is a wonderfully diverse community. Our goal at Cortona is to provide not only good coffee and a comfortable place to relax, but also a platform and meeting space for people of different cultures to discuss, teach, listen, learn, and build friendships. Our mezzanine level is freely available for anyone interested in holding community seminars, classes, clubs, discussions, etc. So…If you are in the neighborhood check it out and if anyone would is looking for a meeting place to have discussions or hold a forum this would be a great spot. See you there sometime soon.

Thanks to all those that were able to attend last night’s RoundTrip! at Nectar.  It was a great turnout, and this will give us momentum to host it again, and most likely on a weekend night so that more can attend.

And thanks again to the bands for their generousity and wonderful performances: Thione Diop & Yeke Yeke,  BeleBá,  and TubaLuba.

I’ll post some video or photos as they become available.

Hope to see you all at the next RoundTrip!  (which is tbd, but probably in January or February)

Saturday, DJ BARACOA @ Meza Tapas Bar in Cap. Hill, starts at 10pm.

You know this means good music and good dancing!

I think this is his first time playing here; let’s support him and check out their dance space and eats.

Dinner before-hand, 8:30 p.m. –  onward.

Appetizer, for the truly party-prone: warm up with Dennis’s “Body Movement” class 7 – 8 pm @ Todo Bien Studios (always room for a plug!)

Library Post of the Week

Los Van Van is a household name around these parts! What is your favorite album and/or song by Los Van Van? I have so many and it is very difficult to choose, possibly something from the early 90s…but their new album is good too. It appears that their own site is currently down, but you can find much about them on Check their discography put together by a fan.

Check out this DVD/CD set of a concert filmed at the Teatro Karl Marx in La Habana Cuba on June 17, 2006. It is very good current footage with many of the favorites.
