Hola a todos!

Anoche fui a Bastille en Ballard, me la pase super bien! Muchas a gracias a todos- por el baile, la alegria, y sobre todo el saborrrrr! Thanks!

I also have an announcement:

At Rueda last week I spoke to some of you about the Afro Peruvian Dance & Percussion Workshops next week, July 18 – 23. They are absolutely ESSENTIAL for anyone even remotely interested in Afro Latin movement and dance! There is a lot of similarity to Afro Cuban dance as far as style of movement, but the dances themselves are entirely unique. It would be TMI if I tried to go into any more detail on this blog, so please ask me to elaborate.. email, phone, at Rueda, whenever.. :)

Rueda Sunday – rain or shine

HI Everyone

If the weather turn funky later, we will move the dance practice to gasworks park, under the covered picnic area. Don’t let a few clouds or rain drops keep you home!

Review of Bastille Café and Bar

Posted by on 08 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: Events, Social

Hello All!

Pascal and I checked out Bastille Café and Bar last night for dinner. It is a happening place; only open for a week so far and it was packed for Tuesday night dinner. The menu is superb, and looks like the Happy Hour menu will operate while DJ Baracoa (David) will be spinning this Saturday, July 11th.

Come out Saturday night to enjoy the new spot and enjoy la musica cubana.

David–nice find and see you then!

Thank you.

I would like to sincerely thank all of the dancers who came out and supported Chen Lizra’s dance workshop. It was informational, fun, and well attended. She will be returning to do another workshop this coming Fall. Until that time, keep practicing your homework and remember that, Duane Wrenn, another fantastic dancer and teacher will be coming soon. I’ll see you there for sure and out and about soon. :)

Hostel Info in Portland – Salsa en la Calle, Sat. Aug 29 – Sun. Aug 30

Posted by on 07 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: Events, Music, Social

Hey all:
I just called the Hawthorne Hostel in Pdx and talked with Talbot, their manager.
(check out the website for rates, etc. www.portlandhostel.org)

They don’t take big group reservations in the summer, as he says it keeps the regular travelers away, and that makes them lose money.

Here are the facts:  we can call up and make reservations per person or in groups of 3 – 4 (reservations of 5 plus would constitute a ‘group’).

The dorms are: co-ed (6 beds) or womens (8 beds, this goes for men’s only too).

There are two private rooms (see on website).

He will try to work it, that if a bunch of us call in small groups, he will try to stick us together in the dorm rooms.

The cost is around $28/night (w/taxes and non-member fees).

He said the place is pretty wide open for Sat. Aug. 29 and Sun. August 30.

The Hostel only holds 35 people, and so he seemed to discourage 20 – 30 of us staying there, again due to making the weekend not available for the travelers who might want to stay at the hostel for a week or so.
The loose plan is to carpool down on Saturday, hit the city and dance!, stay overnight and attend Salsa en la Calle on Sunday.
The event ends late on Sunday, so staying overnight again and leaving early Monday is also an option.

Salsa en la Calle is coming up Aug 30

HI all

Those who have been know what a blast this event is. We’ve caravaned to Portland with up to 30 Seattleites before, so mark your calander for Sunday Aug 30. The band schedule is

http://salsaenlacallepdx.com/bands.htm

Afincando, Cubaneo, Latin Expression, Cambalache, and Groupo Niche (from Columbia)

It’s outdoors, all day from noon-11 pm

Some of us are staying at the youth hostile on Hawthorne, relatively inexpensive. It fills up fast in summertime so call soon if you want to book space. I plan to go on Sat afternoon, go out dancing in Portland that night, and then all day at the event on Sunday. Hostel info is www.portlandhostel.org
