A Team of 11 Professional Cuban Dancers Bring the Beauty of Cuban Dance and Music to our Country – “¡Tremendo despelote!”

For the FIRST time in North America, Cubamemucho, an internationally renowned Cuban Dance Festival, will grace Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on September 25-27,

Three thrilling nights of heart pounding live entertainment and gala performances are guaranteed to captivate audiences and have them dancing in their seats.

Known for their expertise in Afro-Cuban body movement and showman skills, these artists can show anyone how to move his or her body like a Cuban dancer. During the day, over 20 professional dance workshops will be available to choose from. Local and international dancers will not want to miss this opportunity to learn from the BEST!

In addition to the shows and workshops, Edmontonians are also invited to join in welcoming dancers from all over the world who will come together at Cubamemucho to compete for a chance to qualify for the 2010 World Rueda Championship (Cuban

Yes. It’s official now. Chen Lizra will be coming to Seattle for her first workshop series on the 5th of July.

Location: This series of classes will be held at the Velocity studios on Capital Hill in Seattle.

Price & Registration: Cost for all 3 classes is $50.00. Chen helps you add that special flavor to your dancing as she leads you through various coordination exercises designed to increase your control of technique while keeping the focus on expressing both yourself and the music.

Afro-Cuban Movements –1:15 – 2:15 pm

Develop upper and lower body control and isolations such as upper body pumps, upper body rotations  and lower body rotations. Instructor uses exercises that Cuban professional dancers use to train themselves and others. The movements are taken from Son, Reggaeton, Orishas, Rumba etc.

Reggaeton – 2:35 – 3:35 pm

A sexy Puerto Rican/Panamanian dance with moves straight from Havana, Cuba. The best way to find your sexy, seductive side and keep in shape! This class offers women the basic ability to dance Reggaeton. Learn hip rotations, upper body rotations, body waves, how to rotate your hips while walking and much more. (women only please)

Duane Wrenn, Internationally Known Cuban Salsa Instructor Coming to Seattle August 22-23, 2009

Duane Wrenn is coming to Seattle. He’ll be here on Thursday, August 20th to join us at our Casino on Cardboard Beach Party. Duane is an incredible instructor and is an expert on movement, not just Cuban but other forms of salsa and other Latin dances. Duane is considered one of the top instructors of Afro-Cuban Salsa (Casino) style dancing in the Midwest. His background ranges from Cuban Rumba, Son, Capoeira, and Break dancing. Duane specializes in Casino style dancing with an Energetic Soul*sa Twist. Here is the schedule:

Saturday, August 22, 2009 1-5pm
1pm – The mindset of leading and following. Who is the true leader?
2pm – Casino workshop not just what we do in the rueda
3pm – Soul*sa – How to transition from circular dancing to linear dancing
4pm – On-Time /Contrary Time/On 1 – On 2 – learn how to switch from 1-2 seamlessly (most popular)

1pm – Rueda de Casino (This is how we move it!) Drills class for keeping the wheel moving. The focus of this class is NOT Casino turn patterns…
2pm – Men’s Body Movement for dancing to Cuban Rhythms
3pm – Women’s Body Movement for Dancing to Cuban Rhythms
4pm – Master Teacher’s Workshop for Casino and Rueda instructors

A really HOT July 4th weekend

Hello everyone,

I have an opportunity to bring an extremely talented dancer and instructor to town for the weekend of July 4th. Her name is Chen Lizra and she teaches Women’s styling classes, Reggaeton, Bachata, Mambo, Rueda and Son.  She lives in Vancouver and does her training with some of the best dancers in Cuba every year so it would be a tremendous opportunity for anyone, particularly women, to be able to take some of her workshops.

The workshops are tentatively planned for the July 4th weekend and the costs would be $20.00 per class with discounts given for a full day of classes or advance purchase.  For now I am gauging interest in these workshops. Hi all Ruedaistas y Ruedaistos!
It was such a pleasure to share a meal last Sunday after practica on the Wallingford Steps. Thank you all who graced our home. Let’s do it again! I’m on for every Sunday at the end of the month. Next Potluck is:
