Good Sunny Morning!
Our enthusiasm to showcase Rueda and grow our fun community got the best of us!
Upon reflection, I don’t think we gave the entire community enough notification to decide to join, (or even hear about the idea of) this “Performance Group”.
So, we’re going to take the process a few steps back, to allow for some creative brainstorming time, to ensure thorough communication throughout the community, and to spend a little time creating a vision/some goals, so our efforts are not scattered.
I’ve already heard SO many good ideas (i.e. bring Rueda to nursing/retirement homes; future FolkLife and Rhythm Festival performances).
PLEASE join the Brainstorming Session, to take place Sunday, May 31st, after the Rueda Practica ends (~6:30 pm). This is the day after Dennis’s second Rueda de Casino Bootcamp.
OUR goal: to share ideas of how/where to dance Rueda in order to gain exposure and grow!
(only rule: no ideas can be shot down outright!! All creativity is allowed!)
As we put the “Performance Group” on hold for a bit, let us continue to dance the Circle at the Circle:
Monday night Rueda’s at HaLo, 9 p.m.
The venue is roomy, casual, and we already seemed to generate a good amount of interest last week.
I had so much fun dancing Rueda there last Monday, thanks to all who showed up and danced!
Please feel free to contact me, Christina, at any time, at gianthoupis@yahoo.com or 206-819-0935.
(if you know you’ll be unable to make the Brainstorming Session, you can email me any ideas you have and I can represent you at the meeting; additionally, I will send out ‘minutes’ from the Session, for those unable to attend.)
If I have not sent this message to you also via email, send me your email address, so I can add you to our contact list.
See you out this weekend!

Hi all,
I know we’re all looking forward to dancing in the sunshine soon (probably in June, so keep an eye on the blog for dates). It’s been a great season at Sonny Newman’s this winter though! The casino crowd has grown a lot this year, and I at least have been having a lot of fun.
I know many of you are aware I’ve been actively working to keep Sunday practices on track with the format the group decided on about a year ago: the half-hour beginner practice, half-hour new moves, and last hour anything goes, so that intermediate dancers can challenge themselves and enjoy moving faster.
It occurred to me recently that since our group functions without formal leadership, we don’t have a set system for feedback on how practices are working. So … I’m suggesting a new strategy. There’s a stack of index cards now at practice that you can use to share your observations and suggestions about what would make our Sunday practices more fun for you.
If you’re someone who comes to practice occasionally rather than regularly, please also feel free to comment on what would make practices more fun and inspire you to join us more often. You can also email me at kfreestar@gmail.com. (The index cards can be anonymous if you like; obviously, email won’t be).
I will collect and collate feedback and will likely call an open (but optional) meeting in the next month to discuss suggestions. I’ve suggested a basic format for feedback on the index cards: (1) What you’ve observed, (2) What reactions you have (positive or negative), and (3) Any suggestions you have. This format may make it easy to conduct a group meeting–but feel free to provide feedback outside this structure if it doesn’t work well for you.
I’ve already heard some great suggestions–looking forward to hearing more from you!
Thanks for dancing with me,
Kyra
