I’m not sure if this is the right way to go about this, but I want to encourage folks to go out to Babalu’s on Wednesday’s.
Live music (GREAT band)
Small but cozy and intimate venue
Music that feels Cuban (maybe is? I’m not an expert!)
No cover
Pretty easy parking in the hood
As the nicer weather and lighter nights approach, let’s go out and shake it together!

The Latin American Studies Program at the Jackson School for International Studies at the University of Washington invites you to join us for our Spring Fundraiser. Come to hear live music and dance with Grupo Quetzal with Martha Gonzales, Mudzunga and her Venda Singers, Monica Rojas and her Afro-Peruvian Ensemble, Juan Barco y su guitarra, Dingolay, and others. We will have an art exhibit, silent auction, food and drinks. Come and meet the new faculty and staff and the student leadership in the Latin American Studies Program, and hear what our vision for the future looks like. This fundraiser will help us build our coffers to support student abroad programs, business partnerships between Latin America and Washington, and outreach community activities. Suggested donation: $5.00 students; $20.00 general. Only one bus stop from the UDistrict and one block away on bus route #48 which leaves from the UDistrict.

Monday, April 13: 7:00-8:15 pm
$13.00 per class (includes open dancing afterwards)
This workshop is about waiting, listening, and interpreting the music. Improve your ability to identify various phrases within any song, pick out the musical clues which illustrate that there is a beginning, middle, and an end to it, and dance accordingly. The emphasis in this workshop is on interpreting and creating a dance experience that mirrors the music. Stop blowing through the music’s nuances and learn how to dance to them. We will perform the same move to different tempos and we will purposefully lose our place within the dance and then find it again. Style to the instumentation that moves you in the music(within the timing) and forget about listening for the 1.
$3.00 -Open dancing 8:30-9:30pm
Practice what you’ve just learned by dancing with everyone for the next hour. Dance for a while and then go home early or continue dancing at Halo(Capitol Hill) until 11pm as we take the ruedas and salsa sueltas over there.
Registration required in order to have correct lead-to-follow ratio. Instructor approval required.

Posters,
Please select and appropriate category for your post. Below the edit post area there is a list with checkboxes for categories. Select appropriate category and don’t forget to deselect “uncategorized” (you need to scroll down to get to it). This little effort makes it easier for people to find all related posts to a topic.
Thanks,

Hi all
For those of you who were in Corvalis last fall had a chance to take a class or meet Duane Wren from Detroit. He’s amazing, and will be here this summer to teach some workshops for us. I know this is way advanced notice, but many of you make summer plans and we want you to know ahead of time about this event.
You can see a hot video of him dance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO8j0x2EgjA
Also, if anyone thinks they will want a private lesson, please email to Maritza at sbdiva32@yahoo.com
she will give him an idea of how many privates to help him determine how many days to come here for.
Thanks much
