Mueve la Cintura ‘exchange program’ – Vancouver,BC

Hola friends,
I’ve been talking with our friends from the north, Canada eh, that we met in Corvallis. They have been dying for a road trip possibility to Seattle to move their cinturas! I’ve given them the date of the Holiday Party with Grupo Ashe and Charanga Danzon on Friday Dec. 19th. How many of you will be around for this?? If there are enough of us here to give them a great party, I think it would be worthwhile…otherwise we can wait and tell them about another future party.
They have invited us up to Vancouver for an event and have offered up living room floors, or knowledge of affordable hotels near the event.
(I plan on trying to attend) Here is the info:
On Saturday November 1st (8:30pm – 1:30am), the Cuban Fiesta is the place for people who like to social dance in an environment reminiscent of an island party.
This time we’ll have a dance performance by the energetic Cuban Salsa team ESTILO CUBANO, lead by Karlos Reyes, who will also be teaching a complimentary dance lesson at 9:30 pm.
FREE ADMISSION if you show up before 9:30 pm (not one minute later!).
DJ will play a merciless mix of Cuban Salsa, Reggaeton, Merengue, Bachata and Salsaton (the mix of Salsa and reggaeton).
Admission is $10 after 9:30 pm. Free parking underground (valid for three hours). Get ticket and have it stamped at Kentizen.
Kentizen Lounge (inside Tinseltown Mall in Chinatown, one block away from Stadium Skytrain Station. 88 West Pender @ Abbott

A couple things i thought of, for Vancouver folks to consider for the 19th. It’s only gonna be 2 hours of dancing with Grupo Ashe, the performance beforehand is a sit down concert setting. That may not be too appealing to the hardcore dancers that want to have a lot of dance time while they are here. Maybe we could coordinate a party afterwards or something on Saturday? Our regular rueda practice group is scheduled on Sundays @ 4:30pm (don’t know if this will happen the sunday before Christmas), depending on how long you want to stay, you could drive home after that. Also, if there are a larger number of ladies, I would suggest that you try to pack a lead in your suitcase for every follow.
At times, we are a bit short of leads here, and it’s not always fun for follows to wait around for dances. Just some thoughts. Sam
Heya, Maria here from Vancouver…
Plans are definitely in the works to come down on Dec 19th. A party afterwards would be AWESOME.
We are often short of leads too, fortunately a few of us ladies go both ways
We know how to keep ourselves entertained while we wait for men to ask us to dance!
We’d LOVE to see you up here on November 1st! I’ll do my best to keep you in the loop on other Cuban salsa events in VanCity as well!
Thanks west coast chica!
Una bulla!!!! (hey!)
West coast chico,
Sammy
I can offer a spare room with a comfy futon for one or a couple.
I cant go to Vancuver but i will be here in December for Sure!!!
A clarification on my previous comment re: the Holiday Party. The Charanga Danzon portion of the evening will have seating, but I spoke with Irene from Charanga, who said that dancing will be possible and encouraged during their Concert!!
“We encourage people to dance during the danceable tunes.”
So, to those looking to add to their dance minutes…they will have cha-cha-cha, mambo, danzon, and more!!
Sam
Hey, Sam! I’m planning on attending the Dec 19th event. Since I am so far away from Seattle, not sure if people want to spend time in Federal Way, but I can certainly help with car rides and can do a special rueda class for our Vancouver friends and anyone who is interested in learning our Seattle signature moves like: “El Space Needle”, “Paseo De San Juan”, “El Pike Place Market” and “Adios con Starbucks.” I’ll even add “Patin Con La Familia.” Oh and by the way, Nadja came up with “Adios con Starbucks.” What do you all think? I wouldn’t know where to have the dance practice but I am sure you can help me find a place.
This sounds great. I may be able to offer a couch, depending on whether my sister is staying with me or not (she’s moving to Seattle soon). Wanted to call out, too–at our practices most recently we’ve had to encourage follows not to sit one out! We’ve been happily encouraging men and women to lead for the past few years, and the numbers show it.
Fantastic!! Thanks Barbara, Maritza, and Kyra for your offers. I will let the folks up North know. Although the last time i checked, they were inclined to do the hotel thing.
he-he.
Maritza, That is a wonderful idea!…really welcoming and sweet of you! You know, that’s why we love Nadja! (although I would like to petition to change the name to Goodbye TO Starbucks.
Yeah, I will brainstorm on a place. (maybe for Saturday mid-day) Preferably, indoors.
If anyone else has a suggestion on where we could do it indoors. Speak up, and post it here. Meanwhile I will get a hand count, to see how many are interested…knowing these guys, I know most of them would love it!
Regards,
