Follow Up on the Caravan to Portland for Salsa En La Calle

Posted by on 22 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Events

I am starting a caravan to Portland for theSalsa En La Calle Festival this coming Sunday. My car is going to take Lorena (my roommate), Barbara, Aisha and we are bringing back Becky, who will already be in Portland. There is space for one more in my car.

I would like to see if there is anyone out there who wants to start another car to carpool to Portland. We will be meeting at 8am on Sunday at the Federal Way Transit Center. You are more than welcome to stay at our little paradise in Federal Way. A great parking spot, a home-cooked meal and a delicious Coconut flan for dessert waiting for you. I’m bringing a cooler to stock up with healthy snacks and such. Anyone out there who would want to be the second car to go? This means I won’t be at Sunday practice this weekend.

Things to take on the road trip to Portland: ear plugs in case the sound from the stage gets too loud, some very comfortable shoes to dance on concrete, some snacks of your choice and if you have a cooler for the second car, please bring it and some lawn chairs to rest those dancing legs.

My car will be staying until 10pm in Portland. If the second car wants to leave earlier, that’s cool. So PLEASE let me know. My cell phone is (206)300-4523. Call me! –Maritza

Notes from the lab.

NOTES FROM THE LAB……

Guapea. One word. A simple concept? Not really.  When one is guapeando it should be like the movie previews; something that announces exciting coming attractions.  Your guapea should be crisp, lively, fun, sexy, daring or playful, and definitely full of energy.

If your Guapea looks like you are obviously waiting for the next move to be called…. hmmm.   Do you get my drift?

There has to be a feeling of tension and release; a connection and a compression and then a subsequent energetic push away of your partner’s hand.  If the leads or the follows hands are collapsed against their bodies and/or the push is not really a push… then the guapea looks weak and  uninspired.

The meeting ground of the hands, hand and elbow, or hand and head should be where the compression and then expansion can be both felt by the couple and seen by anyone watching. Check out these videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODXUBTNogr8

So there you have it.  Now go and guapea with the best of them but do so………… with SABOR!

See you.

Portland Salsa En La Calle – Sunday August 24th

Posted by on 17 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Events

Next Sunday is Portland’s Salsa En La Calle. I am planning on going and leaving early on Sunday for the event. I am very excited to see that on the list of salsa bands who are performing, Sonora Carruseles is playing…a famous and popular Columbian salsa band. They play my favorite song “El Pito” and “Micaela.” They are the last group playing from 8pm to 10pm. Here is who is going so far: Me (Maritza), Lorena (my roommate), Barbara, and Aisha. I hear other people are going but I don’t know who you are. I have room for one more person in my car. It would mean going to the Federal Way Park & Ride (off of 320th from I-5) and leaving your car there and hopping in mine (helping me pay for gas and driving). I want to leave as early as possible so my thinking is 7am to get there at 10am. The Festival starts at 11am. We would leave after the last band so expect to stay until 10pm and drive back. Anyone interested…please respond.

Last time we did this, we had 30 of us go and caravaned in five plus cars. Can we do it again? Let me know. Anyone out there willing to carpool, please let me know.
